What’s better than clean sheets? Clean silk sheets.

In the opinion of this perpetually drowsy lady (that would be me), silk sheets are the way to go. Sure, you’ll pay a little more upfront, but you’ll reimburse yourself tenfold by way of truly high-quality sleep—blissful, really. When it comes to rest, don’t mess around. You are worth investing in your well-being, and that means a luxurious pillow, consistent bedtime, and some seriously soft sheets.

Especially for hot sleepers and allergy sufferers, cooling and hypoallergenic silk is a fantastic remedy and a simple swap that’s easy to make. (For those of you who tend to wake up cold, flannel sheets might be more your speed.) I took into account customer reviews, fabrication, and brand reputation to compile this list of shoppable options. Scroll on for 12 of the best silk sheets to sleep on ASAP. Sweet dreams!

LilySilk is a well-respected brand specializing in silken products from eye masks to menswear. While $500 might sound like a lot for sheets, it’s actually a great deal for a four-piece set made from high-quality silk.

For those who don’t know, genuine Mulberry silk sheets are given a “Momme” value indicative of quality. Consider it the silken equivalent of thread count. Most sheets you’ll find will fall somewhere between 19 to 25 momme.

One of the biggest complaints about silk is that it can be tough to clean. That obstacle is annoying enough when it comes to clothing, but bedding? You definitely need washable sheets.

Sticker shock, I know. But think about all the time you spend in your bed. It adds up. Now factor in the cost of constantly replacing your sheets after they get worn out every few years. An upgrade is well worth the cost.

What does “momme” mean?

Think of this as the thread count assigned to classic woven sheets. The value represents the density and quality of the silk. So, in your search, bear in mind that the higher the momme, the better the silk.

What value momme should I look for?

The general scale for most silk sheets on the market is 19 to 26 momme, so it’s best not to go below that. Anything above 27 is considered top tier.

Are silk sheets machine washable?

Mostly, but they are high-maintenance, and some will withstand washing better than others. Some sheets are specifically marketed as washable, which is a good sign that they were designed to hold up well. As a whole, silk needs to be treated with cold water and very little detergent by hand or in a machine on the delicate or silk cycle. Silk should always be washed separately, and pillowcases should be turned inside out. Do not put your sheets in the dryer. Instead, air or line dry them out of direct sunlight.

What’s the difference between silk and satin?

Silk is the actual fiber produced by silkworms, whereas satin is merely a type of weave that can be used on a variety of textiles, often synthetics. While they are similar in characteristics, satin is less breathable than silk.
